isaiah 40: 28-31

"do you not know? have you not heard? the Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. he will not tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. he gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumle and fall; but hose who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

men are from mars and women are from venus

and other titles have been written to help women understand men and men understand women. several of you have been talking about diferent books and studies and seminars you have done to enhance your marriage. i have read several books and done a few different seminars on marriage. one thing i've learned in our almost ten years of marriage is that we still have a lot to learn. before we got married, i read 3/4 of the book men are from mars, women are from venus. it scared me to death. frankly, i stopped reading it because, if that was the truth, i didn't want to know it. bret and i have weathered through alot in our almost ten years of marriage. we've lived in three different towns, worked with three different churches, lived in 6 different houses, had three children, and edured two bedrests. i've moved in and out of metal stability and he has been a mental rock for all but two episodes in our marriage. one thing i've learned is that intimacy has way more to do with honesty, transparency, and vulnerability than about a particular room in the house. all that said, i want to know what you have learned. whether you have been married five months or fifty years, i want to know what insights you have gained and what resources you have found most useful. what have you learned that has been invaluable to you and your marriage?

I guess the biggest lesson I have learned is that you change your mate by changing yourself. When you seek to love, honor and cherish your mate, he will capture the moon for you. For most of us, that is quite a change from nagging and belittling. Most of those kind of books boil it all down to sex and while that is VERY important, making each other feel good about who they are is WAY MORE ESSENTIAL.

Now, that won't make everything all perfect, but you will be a united front when the bad stuff comes along.

I've been married 8 yrs. and for the last five have had a great marriage. I would say the "keys" to a good marriage are - 1) Be willing to communicate and be honest about EVERYTHING.(nothing excluded be honest and share with your spouse how you're feeling) 2) Make your spouse your best friend. This can take awhile and lots of work, but it's worth it in the end. 3) Have time together just the two of you, go on a date, watch a movie, take a walk around the park, whatever you like to do, but make it a mandatory thing at least once or twice a month ! And 4)make time for romance as often as possible (this is one of the most important in my opinion:)
