donuts for dad

in my new found responsibility of chairman of hospitality for the jones elementary PTA, i just finished my first event. i'm not sure you can say it was a complete success, but you can check it off as done, finished, over! last year the lady who organized it ordered 30 dozen donuts and had 6 dozen left over. i pared it back to 26 dozen this year, thinking we should hit it just about right. i have a very limited budget to use, so i didn't want to overspend for the heck of it. the event ran last year from 7-8 am. when i was handed down this year's responsibilities, the date and time had already been nailed down. at the last minute, last wednesday, the principal asked if we could end it at 7:35 based on a recent mandate the pricipal's had received to not to serve food after 7:45. i had intended on complying with her request. unfortuanlatley, the handout i sent home with the students last week had the 7-8am time on it. we did manage to change the school marquee on monday night to say donuts for dads 7-7:35am. well, the dads came out of the woodwork this morning and by 7:35 all of our donuts and juice were gone. i think it was God's way of answering my prayer to help me comply with Ms. Marcellus' request. there were a few dissappointed dads and kids who arrived after the donuts were gone. i felt really sad for them since they made special effort to be with their kids (in the rain) and ended up missing the donuts anyway. oh well, i did my best. hopefully, everyone will be forgiving that missed donuts. you can't please everyone. i should have at least learned that by now in church work. how could i expect any different from parents at school. at least it is over. now i only have to think about muffins for mom in the spring. got a few months to think about that, thank goodness!!
