i am writing in blue today because it is micah's favorite color. we spent the morning shopping for new tennis shoes and the exhaustive school suppy list. i know my son is a true guy because of his shopping technique. it is tax free weekend in texas and the best time to shop for things we have to have for school. we walked into kohl's, went straight to the shoe department, looked at the variety of shoes offered in micah's size, and tried on one pair. micah liked them and we were finished! end of story. there was no, "mommy, can i try these others on, too, just in case i like them better." we were finished. he is just like his daddy, and i am glad!
now on to the school supply list. its just crazy! $52 for it all and i got the most inexpensive brand i could when there was a choice. we are supplying alot for this classroom. i guess that's ok. as long as micah always has what he needs throughout the year. when micah had a choice of color he always chose red and blue. those are his favorite colors. how neat. he was so excited about choosing everything and i let him pick it all out and put it in the shopping cart. he felt very big and special. it went exactly like i wanted it to. he is really getting ready and i think i am, too. i have been a little worried about sending him because he just turned five and some other mom's in the same boat are choosing to wait one more year. i just couldn't do that to micah. he is desparate to go to school. i am confident in his academic abilities. i am pretty confident in his social abilities. he is reading (three and four letter words) , writing, telling time....the kid soaks up everything i tell him. he has very neat handwriting, counting and writing numbers way past 100 and recognizing them and naming them correctly. he knows all the calendar stuff. he has to tell me what day and number of the week and month it is all the time. i guess what i am trying to say is that i am not trying to brag on him but i am just hoping this is enough. he seems ready to me, but expectations for kindergarten seem to get bigger and bigger all the time. i pray he is ready and that this positively affects him rather than negatively.
i took them to mcdonalds today for lunch for "oldtime sake." i've been feeling very nostalgic lately. while they were playing at mcdonalds, there was a little boy who looked a lot like micah, but he was about 2 1/2. that was one of the sweetest ages ever in micah's life so far. i miss him being a toddler, but he is going to make a great school ager! anna told micah today that she was going t miss him while he is at school. how sweet. i am so proud of my kids.
last night bret lead a devotional time for the National campus minister's seminar. our church and SMU are hosting the event this year. it was so neat because we saw several people we knew from former years...sarah johnson--one of my Bible teachers from lipscomb who is now the campus minister at MTSU, lauren and dan--people from PBC that are working with the Clemson campus ministry, brett and amanda--people who were in school with me at lipscomb while we were Bible majors at the same time, and ed humphreys--one of our great friends who was in youth ministry while we were in paducah. we just sat around in this rotunda, kinda like the old tuesday night devos at lipscomb, and sang whatever song came to us. there were times when i thought the rotunda was going to shatter because of the volume. it was so fun and i am glad i went. (i took the kids with me, obviously, since i don't have anyone to watch them and they were pretty good, but i almost did not go because i didn't know if it was the best thing to take them out at 9 o' clock at night for a worship time.)they really enjoyed it and we sang alot of their favorite songs so they joined in fairly often. i guess that's just part of being a MK (minister's kid). after it was all over lauren came up to me and wanted to tell me something. at first it was one of the first comments i've received to make me feel really old, but by the end i was so honored, i was almost speechless. she is 20 and i am 28. i was her councelor her first year of camp when she was 10 and i was 18. bret and i had just gotten married and she said that our influence was one of the greatest impacts anyone had ever had on her life. she is in ministry today partially because of our influence on her.-------------I MISS YOUTH MINISTRY!!!!!! i want to go back to the days of impacting kids lives. yeah i have major influence over my three and my husband, but its different. i was good at that. really--and its hard for me to admit that--something i'm good at, i mean. anyway, maybe i'll finish my Bible degree soon and we'll move to a new church for MY job--hehehehe. probably not for a while!
oh well, that's enough for now. ya'll have a great day. we're planning on going swimming when the kids get up from their naps so i need to get a couple of things done before they get up.
love you all,
summer

"do you not know? have you not heard? the Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. he will not tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. he gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumle and fall; but hose who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

You're right, you are good at ministry!! You made a huge impact on me and I am older than you!! Your heart is as big as Texas-so HE moved you there! Bloom where you are planted baby!! There are youth all around you that need ministering to and most of the time they enjoy little kids!
I am so impressed with Micah, that is an awesome list of skills!! They do keep expecting more and more of the little ones, but I think he will do well at school! I remember putting Erika on the bus (I wanted to take her but she wanted on the bus!!!) and it felt like most of my heart was gone until she got home. It took about a week to feel okay about her being there. Kayla(4), Lilly(2 months old) and I ate lunch with her every day. I did not cry but it was very hard. Kayla wanted to be there so badly too!! When Erika came home I filmed her telling me everything that happened at school. I highly recommend doing that-it was hysterical. Sorry to write such a long comment-you stirred me up!!
Sounds like another over-achiever that I know and love! He'll be just fine once they move him to second grade :-). I just hope you do as well as he will (grin)! You're entering a new "season" of motherhood now and you'll find that God is able to use your talents in ways you never imagined.
Love to all of you!
I don't want to hear any part of moving to Chicago!!! or anywhere else for that matter. Just consider Ryan and I youth!! jk. I know that is your passion. There will be opportunities. We'll just have to wait and see where they come up. But for the record, I object to anywhere other than Dallas! :-)
Love ya!!!
