after almost 6 years of parenting, i have resolved that some things really are funny after the fact. you know those things that at the time are scary or horrendous or the kind of thing you "can't let your children know you find amusing."
as the parent of my middle child, i find myself laughing after the fact A LOT! this was the case tuesday night. here is the set up. i am cooking dinner and bret and i are talking in the kitchen. all three kids are in the kid tv room (former playroom.) bekah keeps coming into the kitchen mumbling a bunch of words that neither bret nor i could understand nor did we take the time to try and decifer. (after the fact, we realized she was saying "ANNA, PLAYDOH, NOSE, NO,NO." ) soon after bekah lesves the kitchen, anna comes walking in, very nonchalantly, blood all over her face and hands, saying ever so calmly, "my nose is bleeding." we rush her to the bathroom and on the way bret notices that what once was a school craft project made of dried playdoh was now crumbled all over the floor. bret rushes to redirect bekah and get the blue brumbly mess off the floor. all the while bekah is saying, "anna, playdoh, nose!!!" bret returns to the bathroom with anna and i and asks anna what happend. anna says, "i put play doh in my nose." the once dried and hardened playdoh isn ow lodged in her nostril and the moisture from her nose has softened it so that it will not come out in entirely with tweezers, it is mush. finally after much over thinking of how to get it out, i ask anna to blow her nose. the blue blob shoots out and the episode is over. ONLY ANNA!!!
a different kind of story:
my eldest is known for being very thoughtful. a couple of months ago, he ans his sunday school class were doing secret servant projects and the object of the lesson was to make a very special gift for someone and give it to them secretly where they would not know who gave it to them. he made his coffee mug for his friend max on his soccer team. we carried that gift in the van for two months trying to find an opportunity to give it to him when no one was looking. the opportunity never presented itself and micha was very frustrated, but determined. finally i realized i was going to have to work with max's dad to get it in their van while no one was looking. after practice two weeks ago, max's dad unlocked their van before he loaded everyone up to give us enough time to deliver it before anyone could see. (micah did not know i talked to him or he would have been crushed. he was determined to emain anonymous!!) i showed micah that their van door was open and told him it would be a perfect time to deliver the gift. micah, with a sparkle in his eyes and grin consuming his face snuck over and delivered the secret gift successfully and returned without being noticed!! we left and micah said, "mom, you don't think he will know it was me, do you?" very cute. one of those momments you just tuck away and treasure!!!

isaiah 40: 28-31
"do you not know? have you not heard? the Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. he will not tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. he gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumle and fall; but hose who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Oh what great stories! Only Anna and playdoh would result in a nose bleed. Ha, so silly. One day we will have so many stories on her in the youth group.
and Micah, oh so cute. I miss you.
Love you.
