there's alot that can be said for being happy. i was asked recently by our school crossing guard (ms. B), "are your children always this happy?" i thought about it for a minute and said, "well, actually, yes. they are usually happy." i get so caught up in daily teaching and training and reminding that i totally don't realize that all three of my children love life and meet it with gusto and enthusiasm. they really complain very little. that 's probably whay i notice when they do. they are happy doing anything. they are almost always happy and content.
i wish i could say the same for myself. i mean, i try to be happy and i act like i'm happy. sometimes i even fake being happy, but most people can probably tell when i am faking. that doesn't mean that i'm never authentically happy. i am. it just means that...well...my children really are happy most all the time. and that is something to be happy about. it is usually the simplest things that bring about happiness for us. like spending time with those you love and working really hard with your hands to accomplish something.
i am learning to be content in whatever situation i am in. its a big lesson to learn, but my kids are teaching me a lot!!!

isaiah 40: 28-31
"do you not know? have you not heard? the Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. he will not tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. he gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumle and fall; but hose who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Happiness is easy when you are a kid, but I do believe that your children are following your example of making up your mind to be happy.
I think it was Ben Franklin that said, "People are about as happy as they make up their minds to be."
So faking it sometimes seems to be a wise decision. Of course, soemtimes we can't, and that is ok too. A good cry is cathartic. Plus it would be debilitating if our kids only grew up seeing happy all the time. They need to see a full range of emotions.
